Yokohama first Indian plant inaugurated

Yokohama India, subsidiary of Yokohama Rubber Company, has inaugurated its first ever manufacturing unit in the country. This new facility is located at HSIDC Bahadurgarh. The company has invested Rs 300 crore in the construction and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and will roll out Yokuma Earth 1 tyres. The production will commence in the next few months and an output of 2,000 tyres per day.


The Managing Director of Yokohama India, Mr. Takeshi Fujino, said that the plant has the potential of giving an output of 8000 tyre per day and this will be implemented in the next phase. In spite of localized production, the company will continue to import tyres. He also said that the Yokuma Earth 1 tyres have been designed keeping in mind the Indian terrain and will be compatible with an array of models from the B, B+ and C segments.

The tyre comes with a wear and tear control shoulder design. There are horizontal and vertical grooves that check on uneven wear and tear. The presence of a central rib in the tread fashion has increased the handling performance. At present, the company has 600 sales points in the country including the 22 Yokohama Club Network spread across the nation. The company has decided to expand their YCN network by end of this year with the aim of providing an enhanced tyre buying experience.

The company has a 2% market share in India and competes only in the Tubeless Radial tyre market. With a localized production, the company is aiming for a 5% market share.
