The Zica model is the priority of Tata Motors right now as it will launch in the Indian market early next year. The car is scheduled for an Indian launch in January itself. The Zica is built on an original platform, which is also being used in the Tata Nexon compact SUV, which will debut in the Indian market at the Delhi Auto Expo, in February, a month after the launch of the Zica.
The engine of the Zica will be based on its own platform, but it will share some specs with the Tata Indica. There will be a 1.2 liter DOHC petrol unit in a 3-cylinder structure. It will offer up to 83.8BHP. The diesel unit will be a smaller, 1.05 liter unit, which will offer up to 69BHP.
The Zica will battle the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Hyundai i10. Tata was initially offering only a 5-speed manual gearbox to the car but now the Company is thinking about an AMT gearbox option as well. The AMT option will be available for both, the petrol and the diesel variants, but it will not make it to the market during the initial launch. The January models will get the 5-speed manual transmission only, as that is what had previously been decided, and the AMT versions are not ready yet. When the AMT versions arrive, the Zica will be the only car in its segment to offer AMT on both, the petrol and the diesel variants, and that will give the model an edge over its rivals.
The car measures 3,746mm in length, 1,647mm in width, and 1,535mm in height. Being a tall car for its length, the car offers a high ground clearance of 170mm. The boot space is 242 liters. The weight of the petrol variant comes up to 1,012kg and that of the diesel variant comes to 1,080kg. The Zica is expected to open up a ‘new phase’ for Tata and bring the Company closer to the center of the Indian automobile market.
The features offered on the car are impressive. There will be a Harman infotainment system with an 8-speaker setup and Bluetooth compatibility. The system will also enable USB and auxiliary input. The car will feature the Juke Car App, which will make data streaming convenient as the system can be linked with up to 10 devices through one primary device.
Tata is expecting to capture a bigger part of the compact hatchback segment with the Zica. The Zica is Tata’s first new small hatchback after the Nano lineup. All variants of the model will be priced in the INR 3,60,000 and INR 5,60,000 range. The car will offer up to 25kmpl fuel efficiency. Tata is targeting the low-end car purchasers and first-time buyers with this new compact utility hatchback. Being the most stylish car in its segment, having Lionel Messi as brand ambassador, and most of all, offering value for money, has already put this car at a point of advantage for the Indian masses.
