Tata Motors has always believed in giving aggressive and meaningful pushes to its products keeping the existing norms in mind and has committed to releasing as many as two new vehicles each year. In 2014, the Bolt and the Zest will be launched by the automaker and 2015 will see the launch of the Nexon.
The Nexon will mark the company’s foray into the much spoken about compact SUV segment which is currently booming in India. The price of the Nexon compact SUV will have to be aggressive in order for it to be able to compete with the Maruti XA Alpha, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai ix25 among others.
The concept was revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and did appear to be splendid in terms of the concept guise. However, the model which will eventually go into production will certainly be very different. The dimensions are likely to be similar with the car being sub-four metres in length but the vehicle, which has been inspired by the MegaPixel will not have floating seats, a glass roof and scissor doors. The platform which will underpin the Nexon will be the same as that used on the Bolt, Zest and the Vista while engine options will have a 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel engine and a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, with both of these available in turbocharge.
Tata Motors is expected to price the Nexon between Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
