It seems like the success of the Renault Duster has lured every Indian car manufacturer to refresh its SUV segment these days. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) being the largest passenger car maker in the country has now planned to launch two new compact SUVs to add to its product catalogue soon. The upcoming compact SUVs from MSIL include the XA Alpha and SX4 Crossover and are expected to make their debut sometime in the next year.
Maruti Suzuki had showcased the XA Alpha Compact SUV at the Auto Expo 2012 held at New Delhi and had gained much of attention then. The four-wheeler is expected to be introduced in last quarter of 2014 in order to expand the list of offerings from the Japanese manufacturer in India. The XA Alpha positioned below the SX4 crossover in the company’s product catalogue, will be launched as a rival for the Ford EcoSport. Made aggressive with muscular styling, big wheel arches and huge grille, this compact SUV will arrive with a 4 metre long concept in order to enter the utility vehicle segment.
Accompanying the XA Alpha, a crossover based version of the SX4 will also be rolled out by Maruti as a successor of the current generation SX4. Maruti had showcased the SX4 Crossover at the Geneva Motor Show and now, the compact SUV is expected to hit the Indian market in the year 2014 to offer a tough rivalry to the Renault Duster. Presently, MSIL offers a sedan version of the SX4 and is soon expected to introduce a facelifted version of the car.
