Indian car market leader, Maruti Suzuki will go on a new car model launch spree and this has been confirmed by the company’s Japanese parent company Suzuki. At this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the new President and Chief Operating Officer of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Toshihiro Suzuki has revealed that the company will be launching as many as 15 new car models in India in the coming 5 years’ time.
As per the reports, Suzuki said that 13 new models out of the 15 new planned products for the Indian car market are replacement and upgrade models to the existing car model brands. This replacement procedure will be followed by the car maker with an aim to slowly move from current small to the bigger cars in the Maruti Suzuki product portfolio. Suzuki also said that the company’s focus with the small to big shift motto, however will remain only for the B and C Segment cars of India. Thus, it is clear that Maruti Suzuki is planning to focus more on the more premium offerings that are witnessing increasing demands rather than the small cheap entry levels cars that the company was best known for.
According to the report, list of the new planned upcoming launches in India from the big and popular stable of Maruti Suzuki India ltd. by the year 2020 includes the soon to be launched Baleno premium hatchback, still codename and much speculated YBA compact crossover, and a large MPV model that is codenamed as the RX.
Maruti Suzuki has also recently launched its parent company’s SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology in India with the new Ciaz SHVS. Maruti is expected to expand its Hybrid lineup soon with the expected launch of the Ertiga and the Swift SHVS models. Thus, it is certainly expected that similar to the other prominent global car markets, this mild hybrid technology will also be found in most of the brand new models as well as the refreshed car models from Maruti Suzuki. This technology is actually a mild diesel hybrid technology that makes the diesel versions more refined as well as efficient as against their regular counterparts. Owing to the government subsidy, Maruti is even expected to replace all its diesel car models with this diesel Hybrid version.
Mr. Suzuki had further revealed that the company will also involve its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki in developing new vehicles meant for the global markets. This means that Maruti’s R&D capabilities will be considerably expanded. He also added by saying that the focus of joint product development will be on the reduction of the vehicle weight as well as increasing the fuel economy of the company’s new upcoming car models.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce its much awaited codenamed Maruti YBA sub-4 meter compact SUV model at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Moreover, the company is also busily working on the next generation models of its popular cars including Swift, DZire, Wang R and Ertiga, all of which are slated to launch within 2 years.
