Honda working upon Brio based MPV for Asia

The Japanese Automobile manufacturer Honda is all set to sizzle the Indian automobile market with its upcoming Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) based on its successful hatchback Brio.

The Honda Brio MPV is being developed for targeting the Asian markets including Indonesia, Thailand and India. Currently this MPV is under development by PT Honda Prospect Motor, which is a subsidiary of Honda based in Indonesia.

Honda has sent a team of experts to Indonesia from Japan, who will support the developing process. It has been reported that Masanori Hashimoto, who was a main lead in developing Earth Dream diesel technology for Honda, has taken the charge of R&D operations for Honda in Indonesia.

The Honda Brio MPV will be having its first global debut in April 2014, but now it is expected that it may arrive a bit early. The Honda Brio MPV will be powered by the same 1.5-Litre Earth Dreams diesel engine, which powers Honda Amaze sedan. This same diesel engine will also be powering the next generation City Sedan and Jazz hatchback. However, a 1.2-litre petrol engine is also expected to arrive with the diesel variants.

The latest Earth Dream diesel engine has enough potential to make Honda cars a leader in its segment. Its fuel efficiency coupled with its power production can be considered very economical in its class. Honda Amaze sedan with the same engine has been recently launched in India and is doing good in terms of its sales figures.

Honda Brio MPV will be having a tough competition with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Nissan Evalia and upcoming Chevrolet Enjoy MPV.
