Rumors are wild in the Indian automobile circuit that Nissan’s low car maker Datsun will soon introduce low cost MPV in India. Expected to be called K2, this low cost MPV can be showcased at upcoming auto expo in January 2014 in New Delhi. K2 can be 7 seater which will be put on Nissan “V” platform, which also supports Nissan Micra and Sunny.

The company is mum about any development regarding K2, but it is rumored that it will support 1.2 L, 3 cylinder petrol engine and 1.5 L K9K turbo diesel engine. Datsun MPV could be 5 seater and could aim Indian MPV lower auto segment. Nissan is aiming to sell 1,5000 Datsun cars in year, along with India Nissan is also planning to launch MPV in Indonesia and Russia. Indonesia could be the hub for the manufacturing of Datsun MPV’s.

It is interesting to note that Nissan is reviving Datsun brand after over a 3 decade in India, Indonesia, Russia.

Datsun MPV which is expected to launch on July 2014 in India will be desiring to capture newly formed Indian MPV market, right now this segment is quite open and only few brands have entered here namely Maruti Suzuki, Chevrolet etc. Nissan will have to price Datsun MPV carefully to get hold of this segment, it is expected that Dastun MPV will be priced somewhere between Rs 5- 6 lakhs. If Nissan manages to attain this price range then Datsun MPV can give stiff competition to both Maruti’s Ertiga and newly launched Chevrolet Enjoy.
